Reno Bighorns News Release
RENO, Nev.- Despite a 22-point effort off the bench by Salim Stoudamire, the Reno Bighorns succumbed to a big second-half effort by Utah Sunday afternoon and dropped a 100-86 decision to the Flash in the Reno Events Center.
Utah (21-15) jumped out to a six-point lead through the first quarter, but the Bighorns (22-14) would fire back in the second period, ultimately taking a three-point advantage into intermission. But the second half would belong to Utah on Sunday, as the Flash used a 33-point fourth-quarter effort to seal the victory.
"I'm totally embarrassed by our defensive effort tonight," said Bighorns Head Coach Eric Musselman. "I thought Salim Stoudamire and Doug Thomas played their hearts out, but other than that, I'm embarrassed by our performance tonight."
Stoudamire hit 8-of-13 field goals on the night, including a 3-for-3 performance from beyond the arc on his way to a game-high 22 points. Marcus Landry added 17 points and nine boards for Reno, while Anthony Richardson finished with 10 points, four blocks and nine rebounds. Thomas pulled down seven boards in 13 minutes of action. The Bighorns shot just 36.4 percent (32-of-88) from the field and 64 percent (16-of-25) from the free-throw line.
Brandon Costner and Orien Greene shared the load for the Flash, each finishing with 20 points on the night. Ronald Dupree recorded the game's lone double-double with 17 points and 11 boards. Utah buried 13-of-26 tries from three-point range-a new season high-and hit 25-of-35 attempts from the charity stripe.
"Utah did a great job getting free throws attempted," Musselman said. "I tip my hat to the way they played,"
The Bighorns now hit the road for four-straight, with a pair of two-game series against Fort Wayne and Dakota on the horizon. The road trip will begin this Thursday, March 3, when Reno takes on the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Tip-time is set for 4 p.m. PT, and the game can be seen live on NBA Futurecast at www.RenoBighorns.com.
