Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
Cam MacDonald had a pair of goals on Sunday afternoon but the Sea Dogs (14-12-3-1) were down early and ran out of time as the Wildcats (10-15-2-1) scored an empty netter to seal the game, 6-3.
Head Coach Greg Gilbert shuffled the line combinations for today's game. Brady Burns who was riding a six game point streak that saw him accumulate nine goals and four assists over that stretch was moved to the top line alongside Cam MacDonald and Vladislav Kotkov. Ryan Francis who leads the Sea Dogs with 42 points joined Josh Lawrence and Nicholas Girouard on the second line. Heading into today's game Girouard had 10 points through his last six games.
Moncton scored twice late in the opening period to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Francis Langlois beat Emond on a breakaway at 15:27 while Jacob Hudson tipped a point shot in at 17:31. The Wildcats held an 11-7 shot lead through the first 20 minutes.
Moncton extended the lead to 3-0 early in the second before Cam MacDonald responded for Saint John. Cam intercepted a pass as the Wildcats exited their zone before stepping into the slot and firing home his ninth of the season.
The two teams would be held scoreless for the next 16 minutes before Thomas Darcy scored two minutes into the third to make it 4-1 for Moncton. Saint John would rally though as Cam MacDonald took a centering pass from behind the net and sniped his second of the game at 7:25.
Six minutes later, rookie Nathan Drapeau carried the puck into the zone and wristed a high shot that deflected off Fillon and into the air before landing on the goal line where Zachary Alchorn was waiting to jam it home, cutting the lead to 4-3.
Moncton captain Jacob Hudson snatched the momentum back for the Wildcats when he broke in on the near side and slipped a low shot through Emond's five-hole with under five minutes to play.
Emond went to the bench for the extra attacker with two minutes on the clock before Langlois added an empty netter to secure the win for Moncton, 6-3 the final.
