Maaskant Wins It in OT for Otters, 4-3

Erie, Pa. - The Erie Otters ended their eight-game losing streak in dramatic fashion as Liam Maaskant scored in overtime to lead the Otters to a 4-3 win over the Kitchener Rangers Saturday night at Tullio Arena.

The Rangers went off to a quick start as Radek Faksa scored 85 seconds into the contest. Matia Marcantuoni doubled the Kitchener lead with his third goal of the season six minutes and seven seconds into the first.

Johnny McGuire cut the deficit to one 26 seconds later as Jake Evanssprung Tyler McCarthy for a two-on-one. McCarthy passed around a sliding Ryan Murphy to find McGuire cutting in front, and McGuire put it through the blocker of Franky Palazzese for his first of the season.

Tobias Reider scored 22 seconds into the second to put Kitchener up by two. Stephen Harper pulled the Otters to within one 51 seconds later as he crashed the net for a rebound from a Connor Brown shot for his third goal of the season.

Harper added his second of the game as he deflected a shot from Brett Cookthrough traffic two minutes and 37 seconds into the third. The teams played a tight third period, but neither could score the tie-breaker in regulation.

Overtime set up a memorable first OHL goal for Maaskant, who received the puck in the high slot after hard work by Brown on Ben Fanelli along the boards allowed Brown to find Maaskant, who fired home the game-winner through the blocker of Palazzese with 98 seconds left in the extra frame.

Harper had a three point night with two goals and an assist as he continues a recent hot streak. Brown collected two assists for the Otters while Ramis Sadikov earned the win with 26 saves.
