Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (52-47) surrendered a ninth-inning lead before losing to the Mississippi Braves (44-54), 7-5, on Millennial Night at Riverwalk Stadium.
After scoring just one run over the last twenty innings, Montgomery jumped ahead with a two-run opening frame. Michael Russell singled off Mississippi starter Ricardo Sanchez to begin the threat before Nick Solak hit his fourteenth home run of the season.
The Braves answered in the second inning. A two-run triple off the bat of Ray-Patrick Didder knotted the score at 2-2 and led to Biscuits' opener Dalton Moats being relieved by Genesis Cabrera.
Cabrera retired the first eight Mississippi hitters he faced, allowing Montgomery to seize the lead in the fourth on a Jake Cronenworth sacrifice fly.
However, once the Braves put bat on ball, they had success. Starting with a Didder single, Mississippi chopped four consecutive hits, including an Alejandro Salazar two-run single.
With his team trailing 4-3, All-Star Futures Game selection Nate Lowe took matters into his own hands, tying the game on his tenth home run with the Biscuits and twentieth of the season.
As Montgomery and Mississippi fought to post scoreless innings, the Biscuits plated their second unanswered run on a productive Dalton Kelly groundout, which scored Nathan Lukes from third.
Up 5-4, Montgomery manager Brady Williams turned to Curtis Taylor (2-2), who blew his second save of the season. Daniel Lockhart doubled home Didder with no outs prior to Tyler Marlette pushing Mississippi forward with a one-out RBI-single. The Braves added an insurance run as Sal Giardina singled and upped the advantage to 7-5.
Braves' reliever Corbin Clouse turned away the Biscuits, retiring Jake Cronenworth, Peter Maris and Thomas Milone in order in the ninth.
Montgomery concludes a five-game homestand against the Mississippi Braves Sunday during Bark in the Park, featuring a Big Mo Growth Chart Giveaway. Brock Burke (0-0) will make his Riverwalk Stadium debut for the Biscuits and be matched up against the Braves' Bruce Zimmermann (2-0).
