M-Braves' Late Rally Stifled by Rocket City Walkoff

MADISON, AL - The Mississippi Braves (47-56, 14-21) homered three times and scored four runs in the final two innings to tie the game, but Jose Gomez and the Rocket City Trash Pandas (48-56, 17-18) walked off to sneak away with a 6-5 win at Toyota Field on Thursday night.

Gomez singled to down the right-field line to bring in the winning run. The series is now even at a game apiece ahead of tomorrow's doubleheader.

Rocket City put up four runs in the third inning and another in the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead. The M-Braves bullpen kept the game close after Nick Margevicius exited the game in the fourth.

Peyton Williams got the last out of the fourth and pitched a scoreless fifth inning. Trey Riley added a shutout sixth inning, and Jake McSteen tossed two scoreless frames to hold Rocket City's advantage at four runs.

In the eighth, Jesse Franklin V smashed a solo shot to left field. The homer was his 12th of the season. Three batters later, Hudson Potts launched a two-run homer off the batter's eye in center to pull the M-Braves within a run at 5-4.

After knocking in four runs on Tuesday, Tyler Tolve belted a deep drive to right field to tie the game at 5-5. The homer capped off a stretch of four runs and three homers in two innings. In two games this series, Tolve has racked up five hits, a home run and five RBI.

The Trash Pandas did not give in and quickly put two runners on in the bottom of the ninth. Gomez then lifted a ball down the right-field line that dropped right next to a sprinting Landon Stephens for a base hit. Stephens made a strong throw to the plate, but the tag came in just behind the winning run.

The two clubs are scheduled for a doubleheader tomorrow at Toyota Field. In game one, RHP Nolan Kingham (2-0, 1.61) will make the start Mississippi while RHP Robinson Pina (3-1, 2.51) will start for Rocket City. The game two matchup features LHP Luis De Avila (6-6, 2.95) against a starter to be named for Rocket City.

The first pitch for game one is at 4:05 pm CT with game two expected to start 30 minutes after the completion of game one. Coverage starts 15 minutes before game one on 102.1 The Box, MiLB First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
