Mississippi Braves News Release

Jackson, TN - For the second night in a row and the third time in five nights, the Mississippi Braves fell to a Jackson Generals walkoff single. This time it was Francisco Martinez in the tenth, driving in Chih-Hsien Chiang to give Jackson a 3-2 win at Pringles Park.

The Generals (30-25; 72-53) loaded the bases in the tenth off of Chris Jones in part thanks to a Jason Christian throwing error in trying to start a double play. After Jones intentionally walked Denny Almonte to load the bases, Martinez hit an 0-1 pitch to deep right over Bobby Stevens to bring in the winner.

Jones took his fourth loss of the season after Zeke Spruill pitched nine strong innings. He gave up just two runs on seven hits while striking out six, but he came away with a no decision despite the solid effort.

Forrest Snow earned the win in relief, his third, after pitching a scoreless top of the tenth. Taijuan Walker allowed just two runs on six hits over eight innings in the start.

The Braves (24-31; 54-71) jumped out to a lead in the first when Todd Cunningham scored on Joey Terdoslavich's one-out single.

Jackson tied the game 1-1 when catcher Mike Zunino hit his first double-A home run, a solo shot over the 24-foot wall in left field.

Mississippi regained the lead in the fourth on Jaime Pedroza's no-doubt solo home run to right, his second as a Brave, but the Generals came right back in the bottom of the fourth with a Rich Poythress RBI double to tie the game 2-2.

The Braves now look to turn around a three-game losing streak as they open a ten-game home stand at Trustmark Park, starting with the Huntsville Stars on Sunday at 5:00 PM CT. Jose Lugo (3-3, 3.63) gets the start for the Braves against right-hander Johnnie Lowe (2-3, 4.95). Fans can listen live on 103.9 WYAB and online at MississippiBraves.com beginning at 4:30 PM CT with the Vicksburg Toyota "Countdown to First Pitch."
