
M-Braves Drop Series Opener to Montgomery 8-5

CHATTANOOGA, TN - The Mississippi Braves (3-7) dropped the series opener 8-5 to the Montgomery Biscuits (7-3) on Tuesday night at Trustmark Park, marking the club's fifth straight loss.
The M-Braves scored three runs in the ninth and four of their five runs in the final two innings.
Greg Jones put the Biscuits ahead on the second pitch of the game, depositing a solo homer into the bullpen in right field.
Montgomery scored two in the first, one in the third and fourth, and two more in the fifth to lead 6-0 through six innings.
In his first start for the M-Braves, LHP Domingo Robles gave up three runs in three innings. The left-hander allowed six hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Robles made two starts for Triple-A Gwinnett to start the season.
The M-Braves first hit came in the fourth. Cody Milligan drilled a ground-rule double to right field to lead off the inning, but he was left stranded on third base.
Milligan hit in eight of nine games to start the season. Milligan went 1-for-4 with a double and is currently batting .353 with a league-leading six doubles.
Landon Stephens mashed a line drive to the left field corner for a solo homer to put the M-Braves on the board in the seventh, 6-1. The lined shot exited Stephens' bat at 112 miles per hour.
Stephens homered for the second game in a row. The outfielder has two home runs and six RBI in eight games.
RHP Alec Barger highlighted the bullpen with two shutout innings. The right-hander has yet to allow a run in seven innings over four relief appearances.
Andrew Moritz's first hit of the season knocked in a Beau Philip double for the M-Braves second run of the game in the eighth, making it 7-2.
The Biscuits added another run on a hit in the ninth to take an 8-2 lead.
The M-Braves found their offense in the ninth. After a single from Javier Valdes, first baseman Drew Lugbauer hammered a double off the wall to score Valdes. Two batters later, Philip laced a two-run double down the right field line to make it 8-5. Moritz struck out looking to end the game.
Philip went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and two RBI. Philip is batting .240 with a home run, three doubles and six RBI in eight games.
The second game of the series is on Wednesday at Trustmark Park. RHP Alan Rangel (0-1, 9.00) will make the start for Mississippi against LHP Mason Montgomery (0-0, 1.50) for Montgomery. The first pitch is at 11:05 am CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
