Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (27-29) settled for a series split with a 5-4 loss to the Biloxi Shuckers (29-28) on Sunday afternoon at Trustmark Park.
Home runs from Landon Stephens and Drew Campbell accounted for all four runs as a comeback attempt came up short over the final four innings. The M-Braves hit 11 home runs over six games in the series.
LHP Wade Miley made an MLB rehab start for the Shuckers. The left-hander posted five shutout innings on 65 pitches. Miley went on the 15-day Injured List with a left lat strain on May 17 after making eight starts for Milwaukee this season.
After three scoreless innings, Biloxi broke through for three runs in the fourth. LHP Domingo Robles went four innings in his ninth start, allowing three earned runs.
Behind 4-0 in the sixth, Stephens made it a one-run game with one swing of the bat. The outfielder cranked a three-run homer off the batter's eye to make it 4-3. The homer was Stephens' 10th of the season, following up his walk-off home run on Saturday night.
The Shuckers added a key insurance run in the top of the ninth to make it 5-3. In the bottom of the ninth, Campbell launched a solo shot out to right to pull the M-Braves within one, but RHP Abner Uribe retired the next two batters for his seventh save.
Campbell finished 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a base hit. Jesse Franklin V went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and has a hit in 11 of his last 12 games.
With the win, Biloxi manager Mike Guerrero reached 1,400 career wins as a manager.
The M-Braves have a scheduled off day tomorrow before traveling for a six-game road series against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (Double-A Affiliate, Miami Marlins) on Tuesday.
The club will return to Trustmark Park for a six-game homestand against the Birmingham Barons (Double-A, Chicago White Sox) from June 20-25 to wrap up the first half of the season. For a full list of tickets and promotions, visit mississippibraves.com.
