
M-Braves' Big First Inning Not Enough in 9-5 Loss to Biscuits

PEARL, MS - Despite a four-run first inning by the Mississippi Braves (38-39), the Montgomery Biscuits scored eight unanswered runs over the final six innings to win 9-5 on Friday night at Trustmark Park.
Justin Dean led off the first with a base hit to center on the first pitch. Cal Conley doubled to right, and a throwing error from right field allowed Dean to score the first run of the game. Luke Waddell knocked in a run with a base hit, and Landon Stephens added two more on a single to make it 4-0 after one inning.
Waddell has 38 hits in his last 28 games. The infielder went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two stolen bases. Stephens improved his hit streak to eight games. The outfielder still leads the league with 16 home runs and ranks in the top ten with 48 RBI.
In the third, Cade Bunnell homered off the batter's eye to make it 5-1. Bunnell has 12 home runs this season and has homered three times in the last five games.
Montgomery exploded for five runs off four hits and an error in the fourth. The Biscuits added three more in the sixth for eight unanswered runs and a 9-5 lead.
Kyle Wilcox and Victor Vodnik kept the M-Braves in the game. Wilcox struck out three and retired six in a row in two shutout innings. Wilcox has two earned runs in 20 2/3 innings for the M-Braves this season. Vodnik took down the Biscuits in order in the ninth inning.
However, the M-Braves failed to get anything going. The M-Braves picked up just one hit over the final six innings.
The fourth and fifth games of the series are on Saturday at Trustmark Park in a doubleheader that starts at 5:05 pm CT. The two clubs will be making up the game postponed due to rain on Thursday night. Coverage starts 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, MiLB First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
