Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Road Warriors 12-3 on Sunday evening in the finale of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark. Sunday also marked the 864th game played with the Ducks for shortstop Dan Lyons, moving him past Ray Navarrete for the most games played in franchise history.
The Road Warriors struck first, as Geraldo Valentin lifted a two-run home run to left field in the second inning off Ducks starter Jake Fisher. Long Island responded with a six-run third inning against Road Warriors starter Kelvin Villa to take a 6-2 lead. David Washington's two-run single to right field, an RBI single to left-center by Cody Puckett and a two-out, three-run homer to left by Dan Lyons did the damage.
Dioner Navarro connected for a two-out RBI single in the fourth, extending the Ducks advantage to five. A sac fly off the bat of Daniel Aldrich in the fifth trimmed the Road Warriors deficit to 7-3. However, a five-run bottom of the eighth for the Flock put the game out of reach. A bases loaded walk to Travis Snider and a grand slam to left-center by Washington rounded out the scoring.
Fisher (6-5) earned the win, tossing eight innings of three-run ball, allowing eight hits and a walk while striking out six. Villa (3-9) took the loss, surrendering six runs on six hits and four walks in three innings with five strikeouts. Jose Cuas pitched a scoreless ninth inning to seal the victory.
Washington led the Flock with two hits, six RBIs and two runs scored. Lyons chipped in with two hits, three RBIs and a pair of runs.
