Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots (19-8, 54-36) defeated the New Britain Bees (12-13, 45-43) 4-3 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday evening.

With the score tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Craig Massey sent a walk-off RBI single to right field to hand the Patriots the series over the Bees.

"I knew [relief pitcher Sam Gervacio] liked his cutter and his slider," said Massey. "I was fortunate that he fell behind 2-0 and eventually 3-1. I was really looking for something hard and in and found it."

The Bees took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Deibinson Romero and a run-scoring passed ball.

The Patriots cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Alfredo Rodriguez.

Endy Chavez tied up the game in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single.

Somerset took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Justin Trapp.

New Britain knotted the game up again in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single by James Skelton.

Ryan Kelly (2-2) picked up the win with an inning pitched. Gervacio (0-2) took the loss, giving up a run on two hits in 0.2 innings pitched.

The 2018 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Monday, August 6th with a 7:05 pm game against the Long Island Ducks at TD Bank Ballpark. The game features Star Wars Night presented by The Beez Foundation. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
