April 24, 2003 - International League (IL1)
Ottawa Lynx News Release
The Lynx have won three straight games, and now sit at 8-11. Player of the Game: Ottawa starter Travis Driskill went 6.0 innings, giving up only 4 hits and 1 run, while striking out 5 in picking up his first win of the year.
Home Runs: OTT - none
SWB - none Key Plays: Darnell McDonald's single to center drove home Luis Matos, giving the Lynx a 2-1 lead in the 6th inning.
Player of the Game: Driskill, who pitched masterfully in picking up his first win. Recap: Scranton got their only run in the 2nd, a wind-aided homer to right field by first basemen Dave Hollins. The Lynx took the lead in the 6th when Eddy Garabito led off with a single, moved to third on Luis Matos' double to left, and scored when the throw from the outfield got away from second basemen Jason Knupfer. McDonalds' two-out single to center scored Matos and gave the Lynx the lead. The Lynx got another in the seventh. Red-hot Steve Lomasney singled to start the inning and stole second on a missed hit-and-run. Lomasney scored two-outs later when Luis Matos' hot shot to third was mishandled by Travis Chapman. The Lynx got some insurance in the 8th, after Carlos Mendez' high fly was lost in the night sky by CF McKay Christensen, going for a leadoff triple. One out later, Mendez scored on a groundout with the infield drawn in, his great slide eluding the tag of catcher Jesse Levis. Mike Garcia came in and retired the side in the 9th for his 5th save. Travis Driskill (6.0ip, 4h, 1r, 1er, 1bb, 5k) gets his first win.
Cary Hiles (1.0ip, 3h, 2r, 2er, 2bb, 0k) takes his first loss
Mike Garcia (1.0 ip, 1k) picks up his fifth save.
Next Game: The Lynx take on the Red Barons again tomorrow in a 1:05 p.m. matinee. Probable Pitchers for Thursday: Ottawa RHP Mike Drumright (0-0, 5.91) vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RHP Ken Pumphrey (2-1, 3.52).
