Lynx Waive Asheika Alexander and Mikayla Vaughn

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - Minnesota Lynx Head Coach and General Manager Cheryl Reeve today announced that the team has waived guard Asheika Alexander and center Mikayla Vaughn.

In two preseason matchups with the Lynx, Alexander tallied three points, two rebounds and two assists in 22:28 minutes of action.

The HBCU product played two seasons for Langston in 42 total games, holding averages of 21.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.2 steals per game. In her senior season, Alexander played in 16 games, averaging 21.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 blocks per contest.

Vaughn, a 6-3 center, played in the Lynx two preseason matchups tallying two points and grabbing a total of two rebounds in 8:57 minutes of action.

Prior to being signed by Minnesota, Vaughn saw action in 80 games over the course of four seasons at Notre Dame, registering career averages of 6.3 ppg (on 57.0% shooting), 4.3 rpg and 1.06 bpg. The 6-3 native of Philadelphia was part of the Fighting Irish's run to the NCAA championship game as a sophomore in 2018-19, appearing in all six postseason games and contributing nine points and 11 rebounds in the opening-round victory vs. Bethune-Cookman.

The Lynx will tip-off their 23rd WNBA season, presented by Mayo Clinic, on May 14 vs. Phoenix at 8:00 p.m. CT. The 2021 season includes 32 regular season games from May 14 through Sept. 19.
