Minnesota Lynx News Release
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The WNBA today named Minnesota Lynx guard Seimone Augustus its Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, July 18 through Thursday, July 21. Augustus wins the weekly honor for the fifth time in her career and first this season. Augustus becomes the second Lynx player to be named Player of the Week, joining Rebekkah Brunson, who won the award for games played June 3 - 12 and July 11 - 17. Brunson also claimed Western Conference Player of the Month honors for June.
In Minnesota's lone contest last week, Augustus scored a season- and game-high 25 points (her third 20+ effort in five July starts) on 11-of-15 shooting to lead the Lynx over the Mercury, 106-98. The win lifted the Lynx into first place in the Western Conference (10-4) and gave them the WNBA's best record heading into All-Star Weekend. The win also snapped Phoenix's six-game winning streak and was Minnesota's third-straight on the road, matching the longest road winning streak in team history. In addition to her 25 points, Augustus posted season bests in rebounds (a team-high six) and assists (four). She tallied eight of her points during a 16-6 start to the 3rd quarter as Minnesota overcame a 51-50 halftime deficit, and her field goal with 7:23 to play in the 4th quarter was the 1128th of her career, breaking Katie Smith's all-time franchise record.
After 14 contests, all starts, Augustus ranks ninth in the WNBA in scoring (15.9 ppg), second among guards in rebounding (4.1 rpg) and third among guards in field goal accuracy (.487). Augustus needs 125 points over her next six games to become the fastest player to reach 3,000 points in WNBA history. Through Wednesday's game at Phoenix, her career tally stands at 2875 points in 144 games, while Diana Taurasi crossed the 3000-point threshold in her 151st contest.
Atlanta's Angel McCoughtry was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
Beginning with tomorrow night's contest vs. the Los Angeles Sparks, the Lynx will play four games in 10 days at Target Center. Lower-level single-game tickets for those games and the remaining home schedule can be purchased for as low as $10. Groups of 10 or more can purchase lower-level single-game tickets for as little as $8.
