Chicago Sky News Release
CHICAGO, July 25, 2011 The Chicago Sky has signed 5-11 shooting guard Eshaya Murphy to a seven day contract, Head Coach and General Manager Pokey Chatman announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contract are not disclosed.
Murphy, 26, is a four year veteran of the WNBA. Originally selected by the Minnesota Lynx in the second round (15th overall) of the 2007 WNBA Draft, she played intermittently for Minnesota, Washington, Detroit and Indiana before playing 11 games for the Sky at the end of the 2010 season.
"I see Shay's speed and quickness helping our team on both ends of the floor," said Chatman. "With Syl commanding so much attention an additional threat is always welcomed."
Murphy has averaged 4.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per game in her 99 game WNBA career.
Murphy attended the University of Southern California from 2003-2007. She finished at USC as the all-time leading scorer of three point field goals and in the top ten all-time in scoring, steals and rebounds. She was named to the All-Pac-10 first team in 2007, she was a Kodak/WBCA All-America finalist, and she was a Pac-10 All-Freshman honorable mention selection in 2004.
