Lynx Fine Tuning For Season
September 20, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
With Training Camp 2004 just a few weeks away, the Augusta Lynx signed yet another key piece of the team puzzle last week when they agreed to terms with defenseman Rod Sarich.
Sarich, 23, joins the Lynx after splitting time between the IceGators and Blues FNL in Finland, where he skated with former NHLers such as Jan Caloun, Ladislav Kohn, and Juha Ylonen. While with Louisiana, the 6-3, 185 lb. blueliner notched five goals and 30 points in 55 games last season. Following the regular season, Sarich also nabbed a goal and an assist in nine playoff games with the IceGators. With Blues, the Bladworth, Saskatchewan native recorded an assist and 4 PIMs in 20 games.
"Sarich is a guy who immediately makes us better on defense," said Lynx Assistant Coach Chuck Weber. "He's got more of an offensive inclination back there, and we hope he can see some special teams time and chip in on the scoreboard as well as in our own end."
Selected in the fourth round, #109 overall, by the Florida Panthers in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Sarich played his entire junior career with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League. In 251 career games, Sarich lit the lamp 18 times, totaling 114 points and 284 PIMs. His best season as a pro came in 2002-03 with Louisiana when he scored six goals and 32 points along with 69 PIMs.
