Minnesota Lynx News Release
LAST NIGHT
Lynx rewrite record books in win over Sparks
Minnesota 114, Los Angeles, 71
Seimone Augustus scored a season-high 26 points in helping the Lynx to a league record 114 points and a blowout victory over the Los Angeles Sparks. Svetlana Abrosimova chipped in 21 for the Lynx and was joined in double figures by Kristin Mann, 18, Adrian Williams, 13, Amber Jacobs 11, and Nicole Ohlde, 10. These totals marked season highs for each player, and Mann's 18 was the highest output of her two-year career. Tamika Williams posted a game-high ten rebounds, and Shona Thorburn, a game-high seven assists. Tamara Moore led the Sparks with 18 points and five assists. Lisa Willis added twelve points and five rebounds. Lisa Leslie, the league leader in points and rebounds entering the game, was held to just eight points and four rebounds. The Lynx blew the game wide open in the third quarter when they outscored the Sparks 33-14. Augustus had 12 in the quarter.
RECORDS FALL
The league's all-time points record wasn't the only one the Lynx topped on Wednesday. They also tied the league record for most three-point field goals made at 15, matching the mark set by Washington against Los Angeles on May 26, 2005. The team's margin of victory of 43 ties the second-largest margin of victory in league history set by New York against Washington on Aug. 13, 1998. The night also saw a number of team records fall as the Lynx set new team highs in field goals made (39), assists (29), first half points (51), and second half points (63).
NEXT GAME
Indiana Fever at Lynx
Friday, June 2 at Target Center at 7 p.m.
The Lynx will follow up their first win of the season by hosting the Indian Fever, a team that suffered its first loss of the year last night, 73-60 in Houston. Minnesota and Indiana split the two-game series last year with each team winning at home. The Lynx snapped a three-game losing streak to the Fever in their last meeting, a 66-45 win on July 19. Minnesota is 4-6 all-time against the Fever. Six of the teams' last ten meetings have been decided by five points or less.
