Lynx beat Yanks with recoed-setting night
April 21, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Ottawa Lynx News Release
The Yankees jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Lynx fought right back with six runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Jason Jaramillo, Gary Burnham, Jim Rushford, Brennan King and Chris Roberson each drove home at least a run in the bottom of the first. The Lynx offence never let up, as they scored two more in the 3rd inning on Joe Thurston's 2-RBI single. Thurston would drive in another run in the bottom of the 5th before the Lynx explosion in the crazy 8th inning. Gary Burnham drove in a run. Jim Rushford drove in two more. Carlos Leon cashed in another couple of runs to make the score 14-4. Joe Thurston capped off his night with another two runs batted in before Jason Jaramillo finished the scoring with another RBI. All the offence overshadowed a stellar job by the Lynx bullpen, who kept the Yankees scoreless over the final 5.0 innings of the game. All told, the Lynx set new team-season-highs for hits in a game (17), runs in a game (17) and runs in an inning (8 in the 8th). Joe Thurston also set 2007 benchmarks with 4 hits, 3 runs scored and 5 runs batted in.
Next Game: The Lynx and Yankees finish their two-game series Sunday afternoon at Lynx Stadium. Sunday is Kids Opening Day, featuring an appearance by the Philly Phanatic. Game time is 1:05pm.
