Indianapolis, IN - The Richmond Braves beat the Indianapolis Indians 2-1 Saturday at Victory Field. Three Braves pitchers scattered four hits as the Braves won for the eighth time in 12 games
The Braves grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Barbaro Canizares hit the Braves first home run in nine games. In the sixth Yunel Escobar knocked in Willie Harris with a single to give Richmond a 2-0 lead. The Indians responded in the seventh when a Brian Bixler ground out chased a run in to cut the Braves lead to 2-1.
Kevin Barry tossed 5.2 scoreless innings to earn the win. Will Startup became the fourth Brave to earn a save this season. John Van Benschoten took the loss. Escobar had two hits for the Braves.
The Braves and Indians meet again Sunday at Victory Field at 2 PM. Anthony Lerew will pitch for the Braves against Marty McLeary.
