LOUISVILLE, Ky.-Norfolk pinch runner Ruddy Yan scored the game-winning run as the Tides used a three-run ninth inning to defeat the Louisville Bats 7-4 on Saturday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd of 13,131 at Louisville Slugger Field.

Louisville's Tyrell Godwin tallied three RBI off 2-for-4 hitting, including driving in shortstop Anderson Machado for the game-tying run in the seventh. A fifth inning single scoring Earl Snyder and Machado pulled the Bats (7-8) within one.

Tides' designated hitter Mike Cervenak went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in the fifth inning, and followed in his next at-bat with a go-ahead homer that barely sailed over the left field fence in the seventh. He was replaced by Yan in the ninth after singling to second base.

Norfolk (5-8) manufactured the game's opening run in the fourth when leadoff hitter Adam Stern doubled to left field, and was sacrificed home on a J.R. House fly out to centerfield after advancing to third on an Elder Torres sacrifice bunt.

Starter Mike Gosling lasted 6.0 innings for Louisville, striking out three batters while giving up six hits, four runs, and two walks. Jason Kershner (1-1) took the loss after pitching 2.1 innings before giving up the run to Yan.

Reliever Todd Williams (1-0) picked up the win after pitching the eighth inning for the Tides, while closer Cory Doyne pitched the ninth and earned his third save of the season. Jon Leicester went 6.0 innings and did not factor into the decision. He finished the day allowing three runs off five hits, and struck out five Bats.

Game three of the four-game series is set for Sunday at 1:15 p.m. LHP Bobby Livingston (0-1, 3.00 ERA) for Louisville and RHP Tim Kester (0-1, 5.63) for Norfolk are the scheduled starters. Jake the Diamond Dog will make an appearance, and children will be able to run the bases after the game.
