THE HILLCATS: Monday the Hillcats were routed by a score of 16-5 to the Salem Red Sox...It was their eighth defeat in a row...Lynchburg now sits in fourth place in the Carolina League Northern Division at 1-8...

VS. SALEM: The Hillcats are now 0-4 against the Red Sox this season as they were swept in three games in their first series against the Red Sox this season, and just dropped game one their second series...The 'Cats only scored three runs through three games against Salem in the sweep, and were 0-for-21 with runners in scoring position...Tonight is game two of a three game home/road series (two in Lynchburg, one in Salem) between the Hillcats and Red Sox...

THE NIGHT IS DARKEST BEFORE THE DAWN, RIGHT': The Hillcats set season game highs in runs, hits, and home rus allowed last night, as well as committed a season high three errors...The Red Sox scored 16 runs on 16 hits, with the help of three home runs in the 16-5 route...RHP Willie Kempf was the victim of most of the damage for the Hillcats as he took the loss after completing three and one-third innings of work, allowing career highs in runs (12), earned runs (11), and hits (11)...Kempf's previous game high in runs allowed was four (8/10/10) vs. Greenville (Red Sox Low-A affiliate) while playing with Rome last season...His previous game high in hits allowed was eight (7/31/10) vs. Asheville, also while he was in Rome last year...

FALLING FAST: The Hillcats have now lost eight straight and are 1-8 to start 2011...The previous worst record for the first nine games of the season since Lynchburg adopted the Hillcats moniker was 2-7,set in 2001...It is the longest April losing streak in Hillcats history, but not the longest ever...In both 2008 (7/25-8/4) and 2007(8/22-9/1), the Hillcats had 11-game losing streaks (Tied for longest in Hillcats history)...

DIGGING A HOLE: The Hillcats have yet to score first in each of their first nine games...The 'Cats were able to come back from a 2-0 deficit last Saturday in Potomac, winning 6-5, and erased 3 separate deficits in Sunday's game against the P-Nats before falling 7-6 in extras; however, Lynchburg was shut out Tuesday in Salem, and after equalizing a 2-0 Salem lead on Wednesday and a 1-0 Salem lead on Thursday, the 'Cats ultimately fell in both contests...Friday, the Hillcats brought the game within one before a four run Myrtle Beach top of the ninth put the game out of reach...Then again on Saturday, the Birds put a one-run game out of reach, exploding with seven ninth inning runs...Six unearned runs resulting after a two-out errant throw from shortstop Matt Weaver did the Hillcats in on Sunday as they fell 8-2...Last night an avalanche of offense put the 'Cats down 12-0, and eventually buried Lynchburg 16-5...

BEST OF THE BRAVOS: Eight members of the Hillcats are ranked amongst the top 30 prospects in the Braves organization according to Baseball America...That list includes RHP Arodys Vizcaino (7), SS Andrelton Simmons (15), RHP David Hale (17), RHP Dimasther Delgado (18), OF Todd Cunningham (20), OF Adam Milligan (22), INF Joe Leonard (23) and 2B Phil Gosselin (25)...Vizcaino was tabbed the 93rd best prospect in all of baseball by BA as well...

WITH THE NATION WATCHING: The Hillcats 2011 Manager Luis Salazar made his triumphant return to managing Friday night in the Hillcats home opener...Rick Albert had been filling in as Interim Manager for the first five games of the season...Salazar was struck in the head with a foul ball on March 9 while watching a spring training game...He is still recovering from three different surgeries he had to undergo following the incident, including a procedure that removed his left eye...Friday night media swarmed the Hill City including, ESPN.com, Sports Illustrated, The Associated Press, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, WSET ABC 13 Lynchburg, WDBJ 7 Roanoke, WSLS 10 Roanoke, and The News & Advance...

A WARM WELCOME: Friday night the Hillcats opened the gates to Lynchburg City Stadium for the first time as an Atlanta Braves affiliate...5,170 fans came to see the Hillcats battle the Pelicans and see Luis Salazar make is 2011 managerial debut...Hillcats Assistant General Manager Ronnie Roberts, who's been in with Lynchburg since 1991, said it was the biggest crowd he's seen...

CALL ME JOSE TER "DOS" LAVICH: INF Joey Terdoslavich contributed in pairs again Monday night against the Salem Red Sox...He went deep twice for the second time in three games...He is currently on a three-game multi-hit streak, hitting .500 in that span (6-for-12)...His 2-for-4 effort Monday with two home runs improved his batting average to just .226 (7-for-31) on the season, but he is now slugging .677...

OH NO...NOT MILL'AGAIN': OF Adam Milligan continues to swing a hot bat...He went 1-for-3 with a home run last night, as he extended his hit streak to seven games, hitting his way on base safely in each game that he has played in 2011...Now batting .346 (9-for-26), Milligan has two singles and seven extra base hits including two home runs, a triple, and four doubles...He is slugging an astounding .808...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Chris Hernandez was a seventh round pick for the Red Sox in 2010 out of the University of Miami...He made one professional appearance for the Lowell Spinners in 2010...He allowed one run in two innings pitched while striking out two on 9/4...Went 10-3 with a 2.64 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 19 games as a junior for the Hurricanes in 2010...He led the ACC in ERA, was second in wins and third in strikeouts...Was named first team All-ACC team in 2010 and 2008, as a freshman, and was second team All-ACC in 2009...Was a member of the 2008 USA Baseball National Team...
