Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, FL - In a pitcher's duel between Scott Lyman and Damien Magnifico, the Brevard County hurler had the upper hand as Brevard County came away with a 1-0 win over the Hammerheads.
Magnifico was nothing short of magnificent as he tossed a complete game shutout. He limited the Hammerheads to just a pair of singles by Austin Barnes and Viosergy Rosa. He tossed just 94 pitches and he faced three batters more than the minimum.
Lyman was had a pretty successful outing as well, although he picked up his third loss of the year. He struck out six and allowed eight hits. The one run he allowed was unearned.
The only run Lyman allowed came in the sixth inning. In that frame Tyrone Taylor hit a single to right-center to lead things off. Taylor then got caught wandering off first by catcher Austin Barnes. When Barnes threw down to first Taylor headed for second and it appeared to be an easy out for the Hammerheads, but Rosa's throw went wildly into left field allowing Taylor to reach second.
Two batters later Victor Roache slapped a chopper past the second baseman as Taylor came home with the game's only run.
Jupiter never had much of a scoring threat in the game as the Sharks never had more than one runner on base in an inning and a runner never got into scoring position for Jupiter.
With the loss the Hammerheads fall to 20-24 on the season while Brevard County improves to 23-19. The Mantees lead the season series 3-1 with four games left.
The Hammerheads will hit the road on Tuesday to begin a six-game road trip against the Tampa Yankees and the Fort Myers Miracle. Jupiter will return home on Tuesday April 27th to take on the Lakeland Flying Tigers.
NOTES: On Monday, Scott Lyman was named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 12-18th. During that week Lyman pitched in one game and picked up a complete game victory against Charlotte. In that outing he allowed one run on five hits. He struck out six and didn't issue a walk.
WP: Damien Magnifico (3-3)
LP: Scott Lyman (3-3)
