Seattle Reign FC News Release
TACOMA, WASH. - Reign FC goalkeeper Lydia Williams has been placed on the 45-day Disabled List with an ankle injury, the club announced today. Williams will undergo surgery to correct the issue and is expected to return prior to the end of the 2019 season.
"Unfortunately, Lydia has an issue with her ankle that she has been struggling with," Reign FC head coach Vlatko Andonovski said. "We've had a lot of internal discussions, as well as consulting the Australian federation, and have decided that the best course of action is to move forward with surgery to correct the issue. We know she will be an important part of our team when she returns later this season."
Williams, 31, has one appearance for Reign FC this season. The keeper also started all four of Australia's matches at the FIFA Women's World Cup in France.
The club also announced that it has released NT replacement players Erin Yenney and Maegan Kelly. Kelly signed as a National Team Replacement Player on May 3, while Yenney signed on June 14.
Kelly, 27, made five appearances with Reign FC, including starts against the Washington Spirit and the Chicago Red Stars. Yenney, 26, did not make an appearance for Reign FC.
Reign FC returns home for its World Cup Homecoming Match on Sunday, July 28 against the Chicago Red Stars at 1:00 p.m. PT.
