KEARNEY, Neb. - The Muskegon Lumberjacks (28-16-10) scored four consecutive goals in the second period and held on to defeat the Tri-City Storm (21-25-6) by a score of 6-3 at the Viaero Event Center on Saturday night.

Affiliate player Austin Poganski had his first USHL points, a goal and an assist, in his second game for Tri-City. The Storm also got goals from Michael Vecchione and Grant Opperman in the loss.

Poganski struck first to give Tri-City an early 1-0 lead at 15:42 of the first period. Assists on the goal went to Ben Foster, who was playing against his former team, and Brian Ward.

But Muskegon took control of the game in the second, scoring four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead. Two of the tallies came on the power play. The Lumberjacks finished the game going three-for-five on the man-advantage.

The Storm had a brief comeback at the start of the third, scoring twice in the opening four minutes of the period.

Vecchione got his twenty-first of the season from Poganski and Trevor Moore 1:32 into the period to make it a 4-2 game.

Then Grant Opperman scored on a wrap around in front just over two minutes later to cut the Lumberjacks' lead to 4-3. Moore and Vecchione were credited with assists on Opperman's eleventh goal of the season.

But Muskegon added a power play goal from defenseman Michael Brodzinski, his second goal of the night, and got a goal from Cullen Hurley just 31 seconds later to extend their lead to 6-3.

Tri-City pulled goaltender Justin Quale for an extra attacker late in the game, but couldn't cut into the three-goal difference. Quale made 34 saves on 40 shots during the game.

The Storm head on the road to Omaha to face the Lancers on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. and will be back at the Viaero Event Center to face the Sioux Falls Stampede on Friday night at 7:30.
