Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI - Grant Gabriele, Matej Paulovic, and Rem Pitlick registered a multi-point game, while Joey Daccord made 46 saves to lift the Muskegon Lumberjacks to a 4-2 victory over the Omaha Lancers. The Lumberjacks have now won three straight games, good for their second longest streak of the season, and are (4-1) in their last five games.
The Lumberjacks jumped onto the Lancers early in the first period with five shots on goal in the first five minutes of play. Unable to score in the early part of the game, the Lumberjacks were awarded a power play opportunity and quickly capitalized. Rem Pitlick found Matej Paulovic behind the Lancers defense, and the Dallas Stars prospect netted his 13th of season. Grant Gabriele recorded the secondary assist, as the Lumberjacks took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Omaha tried to battle back with 18 second period shots on goal, however Joey Daccord continued his strong play, preserving the shutout and 1-0 lead. Late in the second period, Muskegon scored two goals less than thirty seconds apart, to give the Lumberjacks a 3-0 lead. Gabriele bashed home a rebound for his 8th goal of the season to put the Lumberjacks up two. Paulovic and Charlie Gerard registered the assists on the Western Michigan commits goal. Then, Tyler Irvine hit Pitlick with a long cross ice pass, before Pitlick fired home his league leading 33rd of the season. Gabriele completed his three-point night with the second assist on the goal. The University of Minnesota commit extended his home goal scoring streak to 13 games, and home point streak to 19 games.
The Lancers cut into the Lumberjacks midway through the third period with a power play goal, when Brannon McManus registered his 14th of the season. However, with the Omaha net empty, Muskegon forward Lucas Michaud notched his first goal in a Lumberjacks uniform for a 4-1 lead. Omaha would score late in the game, but the Lumberjacks would complete their first weekend sweep since mid-November with a 4-2 victory.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks (20-20-5) will look to build off of their three game win streak, when they head on the road for a trio of games. Wednesday, Muskegon will battle the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (30-12-3) for the final time of the season, before traveling to take on the Green Bay Gamblers (26-13-6) for a weekend series at the Resch Center. The next Lumberjacks home game will be Friday, March 11th, when the Sioux City Musketeers (19-25-1) travel to Muskegon for a weekend series.
