Chicago Steel News Release

GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN - Jason Dhooghe broke a 1-1 tie late in the third period to propel the Green Bay Gamblers (27-13-4-2, 60 points) to a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Steel (19-21-4-3, 45 points) Saturday at Resch Center. Green Bay outshot Chicago 42-20 in the game, including 20-5 in the third period. Steel netminder Daniel Vladar recorded a career-high 40 saves in the loss. Following the defeat, Chicago falls to 0-5 against the Gamblers this season.

Just one minute and 49 seconds into the game, Jake Jaremko opened up the scoring for the Steel. Jaremko was able to dig the puck free from traffic in the left wing corner, cut to the slot and jammed a backhanded rebound past Gamblers netminder Adam Huska. It was Jaremko's team-leading 15th goal of the season.

Later in the period, Green Bay tied the game at 1. Jack Poehling dug the puck from the right faceoff dot toward the net while falling down to the ice. Gamblers captain Sam Saliba positioned himself in the low slot and deflected the puck past the stick side of Steel goalie Daniel Vladar at 12:58. The goal initiated Green Bay's 17th annual Teddy Bear Toss, as thousands of stuffed animals rained down on the ice from the sold out crowd of 8,397. The game remained tied 1-1 at the first intermission, with the Gamblers outshooting Chicago, 10-6.

Neither team was able to light the lamp in the second period. Both Vladar and Huska made terrific saves at each end of the ice to keep the game tied, 1-1. Green Bay doubled the Steel in second period shooting, 16-8.

In the third period, the Steel mustered a couple of scoring chances on their lone power play opportunity of the game, but could not find the back of the net. Green Bay garnered much pressure in the Steel zone following the penalty kill. With 6:40 remaining in regulation, Jason Dhooghe tallied the go-ahead goal from the high slot, sending a wrist shot through traffic and past the five hole of Vladar.

The Steel goaltender headed to the bench in favor of an extra attacker with just over a minute remaining, but were unable to beat Huska as Green Bay held on for a 2-1 victory, improving to 5-0-0-0 vs. the Steel this season.

Chicago went 2-for-2 on the penalty kill, shutting down all of the opposition's power play chances for a fifth consecutive game. Saturday's result was Chicago's 13th one-goal loss of the season (including seven overtime/shootout losses).

The Steel return to action on Friday, Mar. 11 to start a weekend set against Team USA at Fox Valley Ice Arena. Tickets are available at the Box Office inside Fox Valley Ice Arena, by phone at 855-51-STEEL and online at ChicagoSteelHockeyTeam.com.
