Lugs Avoid Shutout, Not 5th Straight Loss
July 18, 2018 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Alex Fagalde pitched six shutout innings and the Peoria Chiefs (14-10, 53-41) extended the Lansing Lugnuts' (13-13, 56-40) losing streak to five games with a 4-2 victory on Wednesday evening at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The Lugnuts scored their only runs in the ninth against Chiefs reliever Bryan Dobzanski, with Reggie Pruitt coming home on a Jesus Navarro single and Ryan Gold scoring on a wild pitch.
Lansing starter Jordan Barrett (Loss, 0-1) allowed three runs in five innings in his home debut, walking Elehuris Montero with the bases loaded in the third and serving up a two-run double to Dennis Ortega in the fifth.
Barrett was bettered by Fagalde (Win, 5-3), who needed 98 pitches to finish six frames, scattering five singles and three walks and striking out four. Robbie Gordon followed with two hitless innings, striking out three.
The Lugnuts received scoreless relief from Brody Rodning, handling the sixth and the seventh innings - with a measure of thanks to center fielder Pruitt throwing out Irving Lopez at the plate in the seventh.
Matt Shannon pitched the eighth and ninth innings, allowing a Montero sacrifice fly in the ninth.
In defeat, Navarro finished 2-for-3 with two singles and hit-by-pitch, while Pruitt and Brandon Grudzielanek each collected a single and a walk.
