South Bend Cubs News Release
SOUTH BEND, IN - As part of their Christmas in July Celebration, the South Bend Cubs and Bush's Baked Beans are hosting a food drive to benefit the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.
Fans are asked to bring non-perishable items to the game on Wednesday, July 25 as the Cubs take on the Lansing Lugnuts. No glass bottles please. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
"We are incredibly lucky to have a resource like the Food Bank of Northern Indiana for individuals and families in the Michiana area," said South Bend Cubs Team President Joe Hart. "As busy as the summer can be for many people, there are still families in need, especially as children are on summer break and typically rely on meals provided by their school. We are encouraging our fans to bring what they can to the game."
"As a family-owned food company, it is important to everyone at BUSH'S to help hungry families," said Mike Morris, consumer experience manager at Bush Brothers & Co. "Working with Minor League Baseball and communities nationwide helps bring attention and action to a very important topic - beating hunger."
"Summer is an especially difficult time for food banks. The need is high and food donations are extremely low," said Marijo Martinec, associate director, Food Bank of Northern Indiana. She added, "We are grateful for our partnership with the South Bend Cubs and Bush's Baked Beans who are helping us feed the hungry and create healthier communities."
In addition to the food drive, the South Bend Cubs are also partnering with the Salvation Army and will have the iconic red kettles with bell ringers at each gate. The money raised aid the Salvation Army Kroc Center of St. Joseph County.
