April 23, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING - After 17 innings, 4:50 minutes, and 105 at-bats, the Lansing Lugnuts outlasted the Beloit Snappers 4-3 at Oldsmobile Park before 3,720 fans. The game ties the Lugnuts' record for most innings played and is the longest timed game in the history of the Lugnuts.
With Chris Gutierrez standing at first base and two out in the 17th inning, Joey Metropoulos lined a base hit into right-center field. Gutierrez was running at full speed when Eli Tintor bobbled the ball in right field, which allowed the winning run to score.
It looked as if the Snappers would win the game on a couple of occasions as they twice had a one run lead in extra innings. Paul Kelly doubled and scored on a Caleb Moore single in the 12th to give Beloit a 2-1 lead. However, Lansing's Jacob Butler bounced an RBI single into right field to tie the game at 2-2.
Beloit put another run on the board in the 13th when Tarrence Patterson doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-2 game.
Lansing answered right back in the bottom of the inning when Anthony Garibaldi blasted a two out homer to left field to tie it up at 3-3.
The Lugnuts had scored in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, but Beloit tied the game in seventh to send it to extra innings.
Both pitching staffs performed very well in the game. Aaron Tressler picked up the win for Lansing after tossing five innings of relief while allowing just one run on three hits.
Danny Vais suffered the loss, giving up one unearned run while fanning six through 3 2/3 innings.
Lansing (12-5) and Beloit (9-8) will conclude the series on Monday evening at Oldsmobile Park. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
