Devil Rays Walk Kernels to a Victory
April 23, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays lost to the Cedar Rapids Kernels by a score of 6-1. Erratic pitching was the story of the game as every Cedar Rapids player who scored was put on base by a walk.
Devil Rays starter Jake McGee had a solid showing, hurling for four and two-thirds innings before leaving the game with a mild hamstring injury. McGee allowed only one hit and two runs while fanning 6 Kernels.
Cedar Rapids ace, Nick Adenhart, lived up to the hype tossing six innings and allowing the Devil Rays lone run. The difference in the game was the walks that the Devil Rays allowed. Rays pitchers combined for 13 bases on balls in today's match-up. The Kernels only walked one batter.
The Devil Rays run came in the bottom of the second inning. Rhyne Hughes got on with a base hit through the hole at shortstop. Hughes then advance to second on a wild pitch by Adenhart. Matt Spring singled bringing Hughes over to third. Hughes came home when Bethel grounded into a double play.
Tomorrow is Munchie Monday at C.O. Brown Stadium. This weeks Munchie Monday concessions deal is 25-cent Better Made Potato Chips. For ticket information call the Devil Rays office at (269)660-2287.
