SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, gave away $1000 in free gas to Marsha Edwards of Knoxville during the July 4 game between the Smokies and West Tenn Diamond Jaxx Monday night at Smokies Park in front of 6,822 fans.

The Smokies gave away the gas as a part of the ongoing promotion, "Pilot Prize Night," where each person through the gates gets a winning scratch-off card with prizes ranging from snacks to gas at Pilot Food Marts.

Mayfield Diaries, Frito Lay, Pepsi, Oscar Mayer, Reese's and Dolly Madison all pitched in with Pilot Corporation to make the promotion work.

"I'm so happy. I just couldn't believe it," said Edwards, who was attending her first Smokies game with her husband Dave. "I couldn't believe it. I have never won anything like this before."

"We're really pleased to be able to do this promotion for the second straight year along with Pilot Food Marts," Smokies' president Doug Kirchhofer said. "What makes this promotion great is that every fan wins something."

Pilot Food Marts' Director of Operations Dan Fleming added, "We are excited about our relationship with the Smokies and want to congratulate Marsha Edwards for winning the $1,000 prize."

The Smokies also drew very well at the gate Monday night and treated the crowd of 6,822 to a Fourth of July fireworks show following the game. The Independence Day crowd was the fifth largest in the history of Smokies Park, which opened its gates for the first time in 2000.

The Smokies' homestand continues through Monday, capping off two four-game sets against North Division foes West Tenn and Chattanooga. Game times are 7:15 p.m. with the exception of Sunday's game which starts at 5:00 p.m.
