Chris Tate adjusted his cap, kicked his leg, and delivered the 1-2 pitch to Jesse Kuet, who had hit a walk-off double the night before.

Riding four scoreless innings from Chris Tate and a four-run fifth inning, the Walla Walla Sweets defeated the Bellingham Bells 5-3 in the second of three games at Joe Martin Field on Wednesday.
For the Sweets (6-5), the offense all came in the fifth inning, when Connor Kopach led off with a with a double against Bellingham starter Hunter Haworth (1-1, 4.50). Four of the next five Sweets batters reached, scoring a total of four runs before Haworth got out of the inning, his last.
The Bells (7-4), struggled early with Easton Lucas (1-1, 1.29) before Chase Scott led off the fourth with a home run, then the Bells broke through for two more runs in the fifth, but Lucas worked out of the inning and gave way to Chris Tate, who held the Bells to one hit and two walks through the final four innings of the contest while Walla Walla tacked onto its lead in the ninth when Matt Whitney came in to score on a wild pitch, and Tate shut the door in the ninth.
The Sweets and Bells play a rubber match Thursday at 7:05, with Cooper Powell expected to start for the Sweets.
