Lt. Governor to Grand Marshall Home Run for Hunger Tuesday

WILSON, N.C., July 24, 2015 - The Wilson Tobs are ecstatic to announce the Grand Marshal for the Third Annual Home Run For Hunger Food Drive.

North Carolina Lt. Governor Dan Forest will open the gates on Tuesday July 28 prior to the Tobs contest with the Gastonia Grizzlies.

"I am honored to spend the evening with the Tobs and citizens of Wilson for such a great cause," Forest said. "When we come together to help out those who are less fortunate, it makes the entire community stronger. I look forward to seeing everyone out there, as well as throwing a fastball across home plate for the first pitch."

The Lt. Governor will open the front gate at 6 p.m. to greet fans and who come in with donations.

"A visit from the Lt. Governor is unprecedented for the Tobs organization," Tobs general manager Thomas Webb said. "Our goal was to raise as much food as possible for area pantries and this is another step towards our goal."

Forest will also throw out the first pitch at 6:45 p.m.

Last year's event raised more than 15,000 pounds of food for area food pantries. That was 1,000 more than in 2014.

The collection of food will benefit several local food organizations in Wilson County. The annual drive is the largest in Wilson, as the Tobs will look to stuff the team bus with more and more food.

"Every year our goal is to stock up area food pantries full of food and enough to keep them full for a while," Webb added. "We hope that nobody can see out the windows of our bus, except for the driver of course."

Admission will be free to any individual bringing five canned goods to the game.
