Wilmington Sharks News Release
Edenton, NC - Each starting pitcher on the mound on Saturday night brought their best stuff as the Wilmington Sharks (24-22) had just two hits in their 1-0 loss to the Edenton Steamers (34-14). This marks the second time of the summer the Sharks have been shutout, and the third straight game at Historic Hicks Field where the Steamers have thrown shutouts.
Matt Festa carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Sam Foy was the game's first baserunner in the first inning on a walk. Following Foy's walk, Festa retired the next 16 Sharks in succession. Festa's no-hit bid was broken up by Matt Whatley's single down the right field line.
Festa's opposition, Reed Scott, had an incredible outing as well. Scott threw seven innings, relenting three hits and allowing the game's lone run in the sixth. The run scored on two hits and the second of the two Sharks errors.
Wilmington returns home on Monday for a date with the Gastonia Grizzlies. It's Belly Buster Monday, where fans pay just $10 on top of their ticket price and have access to all you can eat concessions. For tickets, call 910-343-5621 or visit www.wilmingtonsharks.com.
