SwampDogs Walk off in Wild Finish

July 25, 2015 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs walked off on the High Point-Thomasville HiToms 4-3 in an exciting 12-inning contest Saturday night at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

The SwampDogs were stymied by HiToms starter Mason Klotz through the first eight innings, where he allowed only one unearned run on one hit while striking out 11 batters.

But as the HiToms led 3-1 heading to the bottom of the ninth inning, the bats came alive as Jimmy Faul (Jr./Louisville) hit a homerun over the centerfield fence, then two batters later, Branden Boggetto (Jr./Southeast Missouri) doubled to bring home pinch runner Zak Orrison (Jr./Mount Olive) with the tying run.

The SwampDogs would eventually load the bases with nobody out in the ninth, but couldn't score any more runs.

In the 10th and 11th innings, the SwampDogs had chances against Will Greene, but couldn't capitalize. The 12th, though was a different story as a wild pitch with Boggetto at the plate scored Mitch Roman (Jr./Wright State) came in from third and the ‚¬ËœDogs walked off.

Ryan Stamler (Fr./The Citadel) got the win for the SwampDogs, improving to 1-1, while Greene got the loss, falling to 1-1.

The SwampDogs (17-29) return home for two weekend games, the first on Sunday, July 26th against the Holly Springs Salamanders on Intern Overthrow. For tickets and more info, call the SwampDogs ticket office at 910-426-5900.
