
Lowey Named Pitcher of the Week

WICHITA, KS- Wichita Wingnuts' starting pitcher Josh Lowey has been named the American Association's Pitcher of the Week for July 30th-August 5th.
Lowey was 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA in two starts while striking out 17 batters in 14.0 IP. On Tuesday night at Amarillo, Lowey allowed one unearned run on three hits in seven innings of work in a victory over the Sox. The 27-year-old right-hander struck out eight batters and carried a perfect game into the bottom of the sixth.
Last night, Lowey became the league's first 12-game winner, holding the Sioux Falls Pheasants to one earned run on three hits in seven innings. Lowey allowed just one runner past second base, and struck out a season-high nine. The 12 wins set a Wingnuts' single-season record.
Lowey is now 41-12 (.774) during a five-year professional career. Earlier this season, Lowey finished the back end of a 19-game winning streak that began in 2011 while pitching for the Frontier League's River City Rascals.
The Wingnuts open a three-game series against the Lincoln Saltdogs tonight. First pitch at Haymarket Park is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Anthony Capra faces right-hander Wade Mackey.
