Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today that the baseball club has acquired outfielder Mike Coles and right-handed pitcher Chris Allen from the Gary SouthShore RailCats in exchange for right-handed pitcher Dexter Carter and a player to be named later.
Coles, 29, is in his sixth season of independent baseball. He hit .300 with three home runs, 43 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 72 games with the RailCats this season. Prior to joining Gary this year, he played three seasons with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. He has a .306 career batting average and .378 on-base percentage.
Allen, 27, is in his fifth season on independent baseball. He's 4-5 with a 3.32 ERA in 31 games out of the bullpen. He has six saves and 38 strikeouts in 43.1 innings. He's also allowed just six walks this season. Allen played the previous four seasons in the Frontier League and Can-Am League.
Carter, 25, played in 35 games for the Goldeyes this season. He was 1-3 with a 3.99 ERA.
Additionally, the Goldeyes have also placed right-handed pitcher Craig James and left-handed pitcher Chris Zbin on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of granting each player their release.
Following these moves, the Goldeyes have 20 players on their active roster, including 10 pitchers and 10 position players.
Winnipeg begins a six-game homestand tonight with the first of three games against the Sioux Falls Pheasants.
