Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

SIOUX FALLS - Sioux Falls Pheasants outfielder Reggie Abercrombie has made the most of his first week back in Sioux Falls.

After a torrid offensive output, the American Association announced on Monday that Abercrombie was named Pointstreak Batter of the Week for July 30 - August 5. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association.

Abercrombie hit a blistering 16-for-33 (.485) across seven games, belting four home runs and collecting 10 RBI. He stole two bases and scored nine runs.

"We're thrilled for Reggie to have this honor. It is well-deserved," Pheasants manager Steve Shirley said of the former big leaguer. "Given his talent, it is no surprise to see him have that kind of impact on the field."

After playing the bulk of the season in the Triple-A Mexican League, Abercrombie made an immediate mark in his first game back in Sioux Falls. On July 30, he went 4-for-6 in his debut and hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to beat the Quebec Capitales. Since then, he has hit safely in all seven games played.

Abercrombie is the second Pheasants batter to earn the award this season. Cristian Guerrero did so in June.

The Pheasants begin a three-game series tonight in Winnipeg against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. After an off day on Thursday, the Pheasants return home on Friday, August 10, to face the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Tickets are available through the Pheasants box office.
