BURLINGTON, VT -- Deiner Lopez, Sam Travis and Franklin Guzman each homered for the Spinners, while starter Heri Quevedo tossed six strong innings to lead the Lowell Spinners to a 7-5 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters in New York-Penn League action Sunday evening at historic Centennial Field.

Justin Higley had given the Lake Monsters a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run homer, his team-leading fourth home run and league-leading 20th and 21st RBI of the season. But Lopez lined a home run to left in the top of the second to tie the game off of Vermont starter Victor Veliz, who also gave up a two-run homer to Sam Travis in the third inning for a 4-2 Spinners lead.

Guzman doubled to the lead to four runs in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run homer of his own off of Lake Monsters reliever A.J. Burke. It was Guzman's second home run of the season, while Travis' homer was his second and Lopez his first. The Lake Monsters got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on a Dayton Alexander RBI double to cut the Vermont deficit to 6-3.

The score stayed that way until the ninth when Lowell got a leadoff triple from Mike Meyers, who then scored on a David Spolilka RBI single through the drawn-in infield. The Lake Monsters tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth as they scored a pair of runs on an error and Brett Vertigan sacrifice fly, but Edwar Jimenez struckout Alexander, the potential tying run, to end the game.

Quevedo (1-2) allowed three runs on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts over six innings to earn his first win of the season, while Travis was 3-for-5 with two runs and the two-run homer. Mauricio Dubon, Lopez and Guzman each had two hits for Lowell (9-8).

Scott Masik was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs for Vermont (7-10), which has now lost six of its last seven games after beginning the season 6-4. Veliz (0-2) allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits over just three innings to take the loss.

The Lake Monsters continue their homestand on Monday with the first of a three-game series against the Tri-City ValleyCats beginning at 7:05 pm at Centennial Field. It is Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Night with one fan winning a $500 Carhart Gift Card during the game.
