Lowell Earns Weekend Split

Rewind:

Friday, PORTLAND 3 vs. Devils 2

Stephen Gionta tied the game up for Lowell late in the third period, but Portland regained the lead with a 5-on-3 power play tally, carrying them to a 3-2 win at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Nicklas Bergfors picked up the other goal for the Devils and also assisted on Gionta's first of the season. Frank Doyle stopped 34 shots in the loss for Lowell.

Saturday, Devils 3 vs. WORCESTER 2

Dan McGillis' second goal of the night provided the difference as the Devils skated to their first road win of the season, 3-2. Grant Marshall also scored for Lowell, who tallied all three of their goals with the man advantage. Frank Doyle turned aside 30 shots for his second win of the season, and Lowell stopped Worcester on all five of their power play chances.

In the standings

The Devils are tied for fifth in the Atlantic Division with a 2-3-0-0 record, and four points in the standings. They have played only five games so far this season, the lowest number of games in the Eastern Conference.

Coming Up

Lowell heads back on the road for Friday night's contest in Springfield, their first meeting of the season against the Falcons. Game time is 7:35 p.m. They return home for a Saturday matinee against the Falcons, wrapping up the home-and-home series with a 2:05 p.m. face off. Doors open at 1:05 p.m. Everyone in attendance will get a Lowell Devils Magnet Schedule. Fans are encouraged to com! e to the game dressed in their Halloween garb as well, and there will be a costume contest for all fans 12 and under with prizes to be awarded.

Around the Horns

Dan McGillis ranks second in points among all AHL defensemen. He has 3g-4a-7pts so far this season. He is second in goals (3) and tied for first in power play goals (3) among all blueliners as well.

Lowell ranks fourth in the AHL in power play percentage, at 26.7%. They have scored at least one power play goal in every game so far. Saturday's victory was the first road win in team history. They will also play on the road this Friday.

Rookie D Andy Greene picked up his first two professional points on Saturday. He assisted on both McGillis goals in the victory at Worcester. Greene played four years of college hockey at the University of Miami (Ohio), where he was a three-time CCHA First Team All-Star and the 2006 CCHA Defenseman of the Year.

Patrick Davis picked up an assist in each game over the weekend, giving him a point in four of five contests for the Devils. The rookie is third on the team in scoring (2g-2a-4pts).
