MacArthur's late goal gives Amerks seventh straight win
October 25, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, October 25)... Clarke MacArthur's goal with 10.1 seconds left gave the Rochester Americans a 4-3 win and extended their winning streak to seven to open the season. The Amerks (7-0-0-0) now lead the American Hockey League with 14 points. The Amerks are off to their best start since 1999-00, when the team opened the season with nine straight victories.
Rochester rallied from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to remain unbeaten. The Griffins (3-2-1-1, eight points) fell six points behind the Amerks in the race for first place in the North Division.
Rochester was led by Mark Mancari's one goal and two assists. Mancari, who was playing defense tonight because of a shortage of D, tied the game at three and set up the game-winning goal. Drew Larman added two goals and Ari Vallin notched two assists. Adam Dennis improved to 3-0-0 as a pro in a 31-save performance. Dennis made his third start of the season because Craig Anderson was unable to play due to a previous injury.
Grand Rapids got single goals from Josh Langfeld, Kip Miller (1+1) and Evan McGrath. Jimmy Howard earned the loss in a 19-save effort.
The Griffins opened the game with a 2-0 lead in the first period. Langfeld made it 1-0 just 31 seconds into the contest as he slammed a rebound past Dennis, while the Griffins were on the power play. At 7:30, Grand Rapids increased the advantage to 2-0 on Miller's third of the season.
The second period belonged to the Amerks as the team outscored the Griffins 2-0. Larman netted his first of the game at 7:23 from Mancari and Martin Lojek to reduce the lead to 2-1. Larman then tied the contest at two just 43 seconds later.
In the third period, McGrath helped Grand Rapids take a 3-2 lead at 3:22. Rochester, however, tied the game at three on Mancari's second of the season. Mancari then had a hand in the winner, earning the second assist on MacArthur's power-play goal at 19:50. MacArthur converted a Janis Sprukts' pass in the slot to give Rochester a 4-3 win.
Later this week, the Amerks face the Syracuse Crunch in a home-and-home series. The first contest is a 7:30 p.m. faceoff on Friday, October 27th at the Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter. Rochester hosts the second leg on Sunday, October 29th at 6:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. Both contests will be broadcast on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks.
