HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs ended a four-game losing streak by defeating the Toronto Marlies 6-4 on Wednesday night at Copps Coliseum. With the win, the Bulldogs record improves to 2-4-0-0 through six games this season.
Toronto defenceman Chris Harrington opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 6:03 mark of the first period to give the Marlies an early 1-0 lead.
The 'Dogs responded 33 seconds later when Ajay Baines was set-up by Kyle Chipchura for his second goal of the season. Jon Gleed registered his first-career AHL point with the other assist on the goal.
Corey Locke gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead with his team-leading fourth goal of the season at 12:01 of the first frame. Locke finished off a three-way passing play from Duncan Milroy and Eric Manlow.
Mikhail Grabovski posted his first-career AHL goal to round out the first period scoring at the 15:29 mark. Maxim Lapierre and Francis Lemieux picked up assists on the goal that gave the 'Dogs a 3-1 lead.
Hamilton's Andre Benoit scored his first goal of the season on the power play at the 4:02 mark of the middle stanza to put the 'Dogs up 4-1.
Toronto responded with a goal by Kris Newbury at 7:42 of the second frame to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 4-2.
Chris Harrington scored his second power-play goal of the night for the Marlies at 8:38 of the final frame to cut the Bulldogs lead to 4-3.
Hamilton restored its two-goal lead when Matt D'Agostini scored his second goal of the season at 12:50 of the final frame, making the score 5-3.
Marlies forward Erik Westrum made the score 5-4 with a goal at 13:22 of the third period before Duncan Milroy sealed the win for Hamilton with his third goal of the season into an empty net. It was Milroy's third point of the game coming with just 1:09 remaining in the contest.
Hamilton goaltender Yann Danis stopped 29 of the 33 shots he faced in the win. Toronto netminder Jean-Francois Racine made 27 saves on 32 shots and suffered the loss.
Maxim Lapierre was named the 'Pearson Dunn Hardest Working Bulldog of the Game' for the fifth time in six games this season.
The Bulldogs next action takes place on Friday, October 27th at 7:35 p.m. against the Aeros in Houston. Hamilton returns home on Friday, Novemeber, 3rd at 7:30 p.m. for a game against the Syracuse Crunch at Copps Coliseum.
