Birmingham Barons News Release

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons suffered their seventh-consecutive loss and third in a row to the Huntsville Stars, falling by a score of 5-2 in front of 5,800 on a soggy night at Regions Field.

After a 91-minute rain delay, Trayce Thompson put the Barons ahead with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning against Huntsville starter Jed Bradley. It was Thompson's team-leading 13th home run of the season.

The Stars took the lead for good in the top of the third on an RBI groundout by Nick Shaw and a run scoring single by Josh Fellhauer against starter Bryan Blough (2-4, 3.83) which put the Barons behind 2-1. Blough would settle in after that, striking out a season-high seven while allowing six hits over 6.2 IP.

He exited with a runner on second in the seventh inning in favor of reliever Kevin Vance who promptly allowed an RBI single to Nick Shaw, extending the Stars lead to 3-1. The Stars would tack on two additional runs against Vance in the eighth on RBI doubles by Hector Gimenez and Josh Prince extending their lead to 5-1.

Rangel Ravelo finished with three of the Barons' eight hits in the game going 3-for-4 and raising his season average to .318. With the loss, the Barons fell to 51-66 on the year and 22-25 in the second half while Huntsville improved to 69-49 overall and 23-25 in the second half.

The Barons will look to snap their losing skid tomorrow night as RHP Chris Bassitt (0-0, 1.64) takes the hill against LHP Austin Ross (NR). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM CDT.
