
Los Angeles D-Fenders Top Arsenal With Help from Green's 31 Points

ANAHEIM, CA - D-Fenders forward Devin Green scored 31 points and pulled down five rebounds as the Los Angeles D-Fenders got a solid start to their season with the 106-87 victory over the Anaheim Arsenal.
The D-Fenders went 18-21 from the floor in the second quarter as they built a solid lead which they rode to the rest of the way to begin the season at 1-0. The Arsenal, in front of the opening night crowd of 3,151, fell to 0-1 on the young season.
With the Arsenal leading 23-22 after the first quarter, the D-Fenders shot 86% from the floor in the second quarter to take the 61-37 lead at halftime.
"We played really good defense, especially in the second quarter and we passed the ball so well," said D-fender head coach Dan Panaggio. "The first five minutes of the 3rd quarter were going to be the toughest. The Arsenal played way better tonight than what we saw on Monday"
The D-fenders won the game by banging the ball inside as they scored 76 points to the Arsenal 48 in the paint. The D-fenders were also helped by their 20 fastbreak points compared to the Arsenal seven.
"We are just doing what we practiced," said Green. "We just pressured a lot. We wanted to come out and play each game the same way."
The D-fenders got also got contribution from Aloysius Anagonye who dumped in 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Kevin Johnson was the other D-fender in double figures as he added 13 points.
The Arsenal were led by forward Jawad Williams with his 23 points and five assists. Arsenal first round pick Corsley Edwards chipped in with his 16 points in the losing effort.
"We gave up too many easy baskets, our energy level was good early, but we just didn't have anything left at the end" admitted Arsenal head coach Larry Smith. "It was a great atmosphere; we are excited about the fans here in Anaheim."
The Arsenal (0-1) will look to notch its first victory as they head to Albuquerque on Saturday to take on the defending NBA D-League Champions, the Albuquerque Thunderbirds while the D-fenders (1-0) will travel to Bakersfield to take on the Jam on Sunday.
