West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - A big four-run seventh inning for the Great Lakes Loons led to a 6-4 victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps at Fifth Third Ballpark on Monday night. Great Lakes trailed 4-1 going into the seventh and jumped ahead with timely hitting and opportune base running. Through three games, the Whitecaps lead the series two games to one. The Whitecaps' four game winning streak is over.

'Caps starter Casey Crosby was brilliant. His only mistake in 6 innings was a solo homerun by Tony Delmonico. The homerun was the lone hit Crosby allowed while striking out 6 with 1 walk.

The Whitecaps erupted for 4 runs off Loons' starter Ethan Martin. West Michigan bunched five hits together for a 4-0 lead as Luis Salas and Luis Palacios singled, Brent Wyatt had an RBI single as did Brandon Douglas. And then Ronnie Bourquin doubled home two runs with a double.

Tony Delmonico's solo shot in the 5th got the Loons on the board. The score would stay 4-1 until the seventh when Great Lakes put together a four spot of their own.

The Loons' Kyle Russell would add some insurance in the ninth with his Midwest League leading 10th homerun; a solo shot to center field.

In the ninth, the Whitecaps put Brandon Douglas and Ronnie Bourquin aboard via singles with two outs. Bryan Pounds came to the plate as the winning run, but Loons' closer Javy Guerra got Pounds to fly out to right to end the game for his 9th save.

Great Lakes' reliever Luis Garcia (2-0) got the win. Whitecaps' reliever Anthony Shawler takes the loss, he's now 2-3.

Tuesday night is the series finale at Fifth Third Ballpark. Game time is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
