Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and the Clinton LumberKings combined for 21 runs and 30 hits on Monday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field. The Rattlers outslugged the L-Kings for a 14-7 win. Chris Dennis homered and drove in four runs for Wisconsin.
Clinton (20-17) scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Terry Serrano drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly. Nate Tenbrink made it 2-0 with an RBI triple later in the frame.
Wisconsin (16-21) charged back to take the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Taylor Green drew a two-out walk. Brett Lawrie launched the next pitch over the wall in left to tie the game. After a walk and a single put two runners on base, Michael Vass singled to knock in the go ahead run.
But, Clinton took the lead back with two more runs in the top of the fourth. Jake Shaffer and Ogui Diaz had back-to-back RBI singles to make the score 4-3.
Then, the Rattlers got the bats going again in the bottom of the fourth. Corey Kemp doubled and Michael Vass walked to start the frame. Dennis lined an opposite field home run to left to put Wisconsin back in front 6-4. The homer was the first for Dennis, who joined the Rattlers on Sunday. Wisconsin added a run later in the inning on an RBI double by Jose Duran.
Shaffer homered in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Rattler lead to 7-5, but the Rattlers had another answer. In the bottom of the sixth, Lawrie stepped up with two runners in scoring position. He smacked a single to right to drive in a run. An error on the play allowed the runner at second to score. Kemp would knock in Lawrie with and single and Vass doubled to drive in Kemp for an 11-5 lead.
Clinton got a homer from Travis Howell in the top of the eighth. Then, Wisconsin scored three times in the bottom of the eighth. A balk and an misplayed fly ball allowed the first two runs to score. Dennis drove in his fourth run of the game with a two-out single for a 14-6 lead.
The LumberKings scored a run in the bottom of the ninth on a single by Tenbrink to close out the scoring.
Efrain Nieves evened his record at 2-2 as he made it through five innings and scattered nine hits without walking a Clinton hitter.
Wisconsin has won four games in a row and they have matched their season high winning streak.
The Rattlers and LumberKings wrap up their five-game series on Tuesday night. Evan Frederickson (1-2, 3.05) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Clinton will counter with Brett Lorin (3-0, 1.71). Game time is 6:35pm.
