Bees Lose By One for Second Day in a Row

Burlington, IA (May 18, 2009) - The Burlington Bees lost by one run for the second day in a row falling 3-2 to Cedar Rapids Monday night at Community Field.

The Bees got on the scoreboard first in the game. In the second inning, David Wood singled and then moved first to third on a throwing error. He then scored the Bees' first run of the game on a wild pitch. The Kernels then answered that run scoring one run in the top of the third to tie the game 1-1.

Cedar Rapids took their lead in the fifth scoring two runs. The first run scored via an Anel De Los Santos solo homerun. Alexi Amarista had a sacrifice fly to score Tyson Auer for the second run of the inning to give Cedar Rapids a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bees got within one run. Nick Van Stratten led the inning off by being walked. He moved to second when Fernando Garcia walked and then moved to third on a wild pitch. With one out, Kyle Martin hit a sacrifice fly to score Van Stratten and get the Bees back within one run. The Bees had runners on in each of the final three innings including a runner at third in both the seventh and eighth innings but could not get any more runs across.

Mike Lehmann made his Bees and single-A debut in the game. He pitched 3.1 innings allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Justin Garcia pitched 3.2 innings allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and took the loss to move to 1-2 on the season. James Thompson pitched two scoreless innings to finish out the game.

The Bees had six hits in the game. Wood and Nick Francis each had two hits.

The Bees conclude the four-game series with Cedar Rapids on Tuesday. Bryan Casey is the scheduled starter.
