
Loons Battle Back for Come-from-Behind Victory

Scott Van Slyke doubled down the right field line with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead the Great Lakes Loons to a 2-1 victory over the Beloit Snappers. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Loons.
Michael Tarsi (0-6) limited the Loons to two hits in his first seven innings. But in the eighth, with Beloit leading 1-0, Jaime Ortiz led off with a hustle double to left-center. Then with one out, Pedro Baez doubled to left-center to tie the game at one. Baez advanced to third with two outs. Van Slyke followed with a double down the first-base line to give the Loons a 2-1 lead.
Miguel Ramirez (1-0) pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to earn the victory. Justin Miller started and limited the Snappers to three hits in 5 1/3 scoreless innings. Victor Garate relieved him and earned two key strikeouts in the sixth.
The Loons (12-15) and Snappers (11-17) meet for the rubber game of the series Saturday night at Dow Diamond. It's Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Dow Diamond, and the Loons will wear special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game. All proceeds for the Jersey off the Back Auction will go to MidMichigan Medical Center, Midland's Center for Women's Health. The game will be carried in Mid-Michigan on the flagship home for Great Lakes Loons baseball, ESPN 100.9-FM, and worldwide at Loons.com.
