Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL. - The Kane County Cougars wasted a stellar pitching performance from Scott Mitchinson on Friday night in a 6-2, 10-inning loss against the Clinton LumberKings in front of 6,351 at Elfstrom Stadium. Mitchinson logged his second straight quality start, but the Cougars couldn't hang on to their late advantage and eventually lost in extra innings for the first time this year.

Mitchinson gave up the first of his two runs in the top of the third, but the Cougars tied it in the bottom half against Neftali Feliz when Shane Keough singled home Gustavo Rosendo to make it 1-1.

The 1-1 tie remained until the bottom of the seventh when the Cougars jumped ahead. Todd Johnson doubled, tagged to third on a flyball and scored on a balk for a 2-1 game. Mitchinson started the eighth but left with one out after he gave up a triple and a run-producing connection for a 2-2 account. The right-hander gave up two runs on five hits, walked one and fanned six over 7 1/3 innings in a no-decision. Justin Friend (3-1) got him out of a jam with two key strikeouts against Clinton's top two hitters but after a scoreless ninth yielded four runs in the top of the 10th, three of which came on back-to-back homers. Chris Dennis (1-0) ended up with the victory.

The Cougars (17-9), who have lost eight of 11 and now trail Clinton (19-5) by three games in the Western Division, take on the LumberKings again Saturday night at 5 CT. Craig Italiano (2-0, 1.50) will face Ryan Tatusko (0-0, 1.80).
