Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
The Chattanooga Lookouts did not wait to produce walk-off magic Thursday night.
After winning their last two games thanks in large part to ninth-inning wild pitches, the Lookouts (19-27) began their second five-game series with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in as many weeks wiith an eighth-inning uprising instead. After being held to three hits over seven innings, the Lookouts put four big runs on the board in the eighth inning for a 5-3 victory.
The two teams, each last in their respective divisions, resume hostilities tonight at 7:15 in game two of the series. Chris Reed (1-5) continues to seek answers to his horrid start.
The Blue Wahoos blew a chance in the eighth to ice the game, largely wasting a bases-loaded threat but scoring the go-ahead run on Bryson Smith's RBI single.
Outhit 13-3 at that point, the Lookouts went about the business of pulling out their comeback victory. A pair of one-out walks in the eighth set the table for top Dodgers prospect Yasiel Puig, who produced a game-tying RBI single that moved the go-ahead runner, Joc Pederson, to third. The Lookouts would load the bases with the help of an intentional walk, C.J. Retherford unloaded them with a two-run double. Retherford scored the final run himself when the Lookouts stole one by drawing the viisitors into a rundown play on J.T. Wise befween first and second.
Rehabbing major leaguer Scott Elbert was brought on to finish the game, and allowed a solo homer Travis Mattair before settling down to earn his first save of the year. Hector Nelo, who got the final out in the Wahoo's eighth-inning threat, earned his third win without a loss.
Getting a no-decision was Pensacola ace Chad Rogers, who scattered three hits over six innings, but gave up an unearned run early on. Loek van Mil (0-2) pitched the eighth and took the loss.
Leading the Lookouts' offense was shortstop Miguel Rojas, who had two hits (one double) and a walk to lead off the eighth, scoring twice. Restored to the starting lineup Puig was 1-for-4 with a run and a stolen base.
